♦ Allied Waste (formerly BFI Inc.) provides residential customers with free curbside recycling and green waste collection. Recyclable collection is on the same day as trash service.
♦ Materials accepted in curbside recycling program include:
· Newspapers
· Junk mail (catalogs, envelopes, letters, postcards, etc.)
· Magazines, phone books, paperback books, etc.
· Office paper (white and colored paper, file folders, etc.)
· Cardboard (corrugated and paper board) flattened to 3 feet by 3 feet.
· Rinsed coated milk and juice cartons (plastic caps and spouts removed)
· Other mixed paper (paper bags and packaging, cereal and dry food boxes, etc.)
· Glass bottles and jars
· Aluminum and bi-metal cans
· Plastic bottles and dairy containers coded #1 - #7
♦ Materials accepted in greenwaste recycling program include:
· Grass clippings
· Plant trimmings
· Leaves
· Tree limbs (branches under 2 inches in diameter and less than 4 feet in length)
· Ivy
· Succulents/iceplants
· Pine needles
· Clean wood (no plywood or wood that is painted, treated, or contains nails)
♦ Allied Waste also collects used motor oil. Residents are able to set out two, one-gallon clear plastic containers with used motor oil on collection day. (Please do not mix with anti-freeze, transmission fluid, water, or any other material.)
♦ Contact your apartment manager for the location of the bins at your complex.
♦ If your apartment complex does not have a recycling program and you are interested in starting one, e-mail or call the Recycling Hotline (650)726-8263 for more information.
♦ Every Year, Allied Waste Schedules a Fall and Spring Clean-up event. For more details of the materials accepted and not accepted for the scheduled clean-up, look here.
♦ Extra trash service is available to residents for an additional fee. If you want extra trash service call Allied Waste customer service at least one business day before your regularly scheduled collection day.
♦ Do the right thing:
Try to donate your unwanted items rather than throwing them out.
Or reuse rather than buying new items.
♦ Remember the Annual Half Moon Bay Citywide Garage Sale occurs the weekend before the fall clean-up.
Look for registration forms in July and August at the following locations: Library, City Hall, and Community Center.
Allied Waste collects computers, TV’s and other e-waste for recycling.

♦ For proper disposal call (650)363-4718 or make an appointment on-line (HHW drop-off) for drop-off at San Mateo County’s HHW drop-off locations. Disposal of HHW is free to County residents.
♦ As of February 8, 2006 materials considered to be Universal Waste are no longer allowed to be thrown away per CA State law.

♦ There is no limit to the amount of acceptale materials a business can recycle. Allied Waste provides recyclable collection to meet the demand of materials generated and service levels range from small bins to large debris boxes.
